Overseas Immersion
Overseas experience in the MSc in Management (MiM) programme can be acquired as one of the electives, and includes the Business Study Mission trip where MiM students will go to different ASEAN countries for an immersive experience in local culture and company visits.
Using a country-specific study as its base, the ‘Business Study Mission’ course examines the rapidly developing business environment and the available opportunities in a particular city or region. Particular emphasis is placed on the socio-political, cultural, legal environments, and the influence they exert on business practices.
The Lee Kong Chian School of Business is part of the Global MiM Network, an international exchange programme for MSc in Management students, between four leading business schools.
This gives you the opportunity to study at another business school for up to one term as part of the MSc in Management programme, providing an enhanced, authentic global study experience.
The other business schools in the Global MiM Network are:
- Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong
- IE Business School in Madrid
- London Business School in London UK
- Smith School of Business at Queen’s University in Canada.
If you participate in the Global MiM Network, you will take core modules at Lee Kong Chian School of Business, before travelling overseas to complete additional courses at one or more of the other schools in the alliance.
During the exchange, you will also access additional benefits from the exchange school such as support from careers services, and attending on-campus recruitment events. You will gain greater cultural understanding of the country which you are studying in and become part of a much larger alumni network.
Upon graduation, you will receive a degree from SMU as well as transcripts reflecting the courses taken at other partner institutions.
There will be no additional tuition fees required to participate in the programme. Students will be required to submit an application to join the programme. Selection process for Global MiM programme:
- Submission of essay, indicating their study plan and how the overseas courses can aid in their career goals and personal development
- Academic performance in their Core Course
- 1st round of group interview
- Final round of individual interview
- Personality and charisma to represent SMU as ambassador
- Potential contribution to SMU after returning from exchange
The Programme Office has the final decision on the nominations. Each student can only go for one exchange in the term to be determined by the Programme Office.
