Human Resources has always been an area of interest to me even though I have been in the accounting field for a large part of my career. An opportunity to work in Human Resources came up two years ago when the Company was working on a Separation Project to spin off one of its divisions. This new role gave me an opportunity to look through the lens of an HR professional, and also made me realize there are many areas within HR to learn, HR is a profession and contrary to popular belief, not anyone can do HR.

Hence, I signed up for the SMU MHCL programme as I was drawn by its:

Broad focus on HR Fundamentals, which will be very useful for someone like me who has no formal theoretical training in HR.
MBA-like focus on Business Fundamentals, which will provide me a broad perspective on business issues, and enable me to see how accounting, HR and other business functions are related, and how they can interact for business success.
Focus on how the HR function can be a strategic partner to the other business and function leaders.
