In an interview discussing the fluctuations in COE (Certificate of Entitlement) prices in Singapore, SMU Assistant Professor of Strategy & Entrepreneurship (Education) Terence Fan, pointed out a continuous decline in COE prices. This trend is primarily attributed to the Land Transport Authority's (LTA) release of expiring quotas. Asst Prof Fan anticipates occasional price fluctuations but expects an overall downward trajectory, especially in larger car categories. He emphasises that while car ownership may not be essential for most Singaporeans, it remains crucial for those who rely on vehicles for practical reasons. Additionally, he explored how upcoming transport policies like ERP 2.0 and distance-based charges could further impact car ownership and usage.
