Gavin R. Maistry is currently the Global Chief Actuary (Life & Health) at Munich RE where he heads the Global Life & Health Reserving and Valuation unit. Prior to that he was the Regional Chief Risk Officer (CRO) & Chief Actuary and for Munich Re's Life and Health business in Asia Pacific, Middle-East and Africa. He also had Regional CRO responsibilities for the Non-Life business in India, SEA, Japan Korea. Gavin has been with Munich Re for over 16 years and is based in Singapore, but spending an increasing amount of time in Munich with his global function.
Gavin's insurance career started at Primary Life Insurer Old Mutual in South Africa, where he worked in various actuarial product development, investment and pricing roles. Prior to Munich Re, Gavin has worked as a Corporate Actuary and Regional Pricing Actuary for Swiss Re in Zurich for 8 years.
Gavin holds the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) designations from the US Society of Actuaries. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Singapore Actuarial Society (FSAS) where he earlier chaired the Education Committee. Gavin is also a CFA Charter holder and holds a PhD from the Singapore Management (SMU) and undergraduate degrees from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in South Africa.
