In a BT podcast interview, SMU Assistant Professor of Strategy & Entrepreneurship (Education) Terence Fan said that sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is the only viable near-term solution in terms of sustainability, as jet fuel’s energy density is difficult to match. He explained that SAF reduces greenhouse gas emissions but costs more than regular fuel. Asst Prof Fan added that Singapore will set a fixed price envelope to keep passenger and freight costs minimal, with authorities monitoring and adjusting the levy after six months to a year to stimulate the SAF market and support the country’s sustainability goals.
