Commenting on Johor’s proposed Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link for Iskandar Puteri and Tuas, SMU Assistant Professor of Strategy & Entrepreneurship (Education) Terence Fan highlighted the need for stronger connections between Singapore and Johor but noted that limited public transportation on the Iskandar Puteri side remains a concern. He is unsure if it would be commercially viable to be constructed. Asst Prof Fan noted that the RTS at the city centre costs 10 billion MYR and is jointly funded with Singapore responsible for 61% of the cost while Malaysia will pay the remaining 39%. He posited that even in the case the proposal for the second RTS Link is approved, it is unlikely that the Government will agree to the same arrangement due to the lower value proposition.
