Describing his research as motivated by the waves of technological change, and turbulent waters of industry transformation, Professor Kauffman has studied a spectrum of other business, consumer and social impacts related to information technology. During his lecture, Professor Kauffman focused on how price and product informedness impact consumer choice. The effects also vary by consumer segment – commodity and differentiated. Trading down behaviour is predominant only in the commodity segment should there be a greater degree of price informedness. On the other hand, trading out behaviour is predominant in the differentiated segment with greater product informedness. He substantiated his points with real-life studies using The Netherlands' high-speed rail services and Belgium's hotels. You can access Professor Kauffman’s slides here.
