Commenting on the continued entrance of foreign retailers into the Singapore market, SMU Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship Chen Liang said the growth trend of mainland Chinese food and beverage outlets looked set to continue. Assoc Prof Chen said that the influx of foreign firms tended to increase competition and encourage firms to improve their value proposition, efficiency and service quality, benefitting consumers. He added that the expansion of these businesses might also encourage productivity through transfers of knowledge, managerial practices and supply-chain upgrading.
