Boeing was reportedly in talks to sell 500 planes to China, a move that Chanson & Co Executive Director Shen Meng likened to agricultural products as part of US-China trade negotiations, with potential to support US President Donald Trump’s reshoring agenda. However, SMU Associate Professor of Finance Fu Fangjian opined that this was not a one-sided compromise by Beijing, stressing that the US would need to make practical concessions, such as easing technology export restrictions and adjusting the 20% tariff on China imposed under the pretext of fighting fentanyl abuse. He also emphasised that the deal was still at the intention stage, requiring formal placement and deposit payment, and predicted it would likely materialise only when Mr Trump visits China.
