Why we chose SMU… again

The current recipients of the inaugural SMU Wealth Management Talent Development (MWM) Scholarship not only personify the values of constant upskilling, but they also are alumni of the University: Toto Tanuwidjaja is a MSc in Applied Finance (MAF) alumn and Wealth Planning Manager at Citibank; Keeve Tan is an MBA alumnus and Head of Futures, FX & CFD at OCBC Securities; while Jaclyn Kaur is a Bachelor of Social Science graduate and Private Banker with Indosuez Wealth Management.

Evolving the family office proposition

SMU Master of Science in Wealth Management (MWM) graduate Luca Colella is the second-generation scion of family business Colella Holding, which has a rich history in real estate, as well as the food and beverage industries in Italy. Over the years, he has managed all stages of the property management value chain, and completed numerous acquisitions, restoration, renovation and disposal of important assets.

The next big thing in investing? Greening landfills while boosting bank balances

Greenfill Trust is a mechanism aimed at harnessing the power of finance in the fight against plastic trash. Conceived by Ang Hui Xue, Goh Hanming Kenneth, Heng Wei Xin Jessica, and Lau Chen Lin from the SMU MSc of Wealth Management (MWM) programme, the project emerged as a top 16 finalist at the 11th Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Challenge, held virtually in April 2021.

Why smooth succession planning need not be a myth

Loosely inspired by the Murdoch family, the HBO series Succession has gained a strong following for the Machiavellian exploits of its characters. While the drama is over-the-top, it nevertheless reflects possible tensions and challenges faced by families with high net worth (HNW).

Growing wealth during a health pandemic

Singapore may have entered a technical recession, whereas another Asian financial behemoth - Hong Kong - has been in recession since 2019, even before the pandemic hit the region. Faced with an under-penetration of wealth management activity, therein lies a huge potential for Asian financial professionals looking to excel in the “next normal” economy.

Building a new norm in wealth management

It’s no secret that navigating the domain of wealth management and legacy planning is as much an art as it is a science. Providing sound advice and expertise to clients with intricate family dynamics and value systems requires more than an ability to wield financial jargon with accuracy and aplomb.
