Entry requirements

  • All candidates from local autonomous universities (NUS, NTU, SUTD, SIT, and SUSS/SIM) can apply with an undergraduate GPA that meets the programme’s requirements.
  • Candidates from local autonomous universities with a GPA under 3.5 will need to demonstrate some other academic quality score (e.g. GMAT, GRE, SMU Admissions Test).
  • An undergraduate GPA is valid for 5 years after graduation.

Evaluation Criteria

The SMU MBA programme seeks candidates who demonstrate intellectual prowess and leadership capabilities, are committed to learn, and who have the personal qualities to contribute to the SMU MBA experience and greater community.

With a particular emphasis on professional accomplishments and demonstrated leadership potential, the SMU MBA programme seeks to groom candidates to lead organisations after they graduate from the programme. Our programme has a strict minimum work experience requirement of 2 years and our participants have an average of 5 to 6 years of working experience. While younger candidates can apply, they must demonstrate outstanding leadership potential and maturity through their professional and personal experiences.

Given the rigour of the SMU MBA curriculum, our candidates will need to demonstrate strong academic credentials, as evidenced by their past academic performance. The GMAT is our basis for comparison of applicants from diverse national, educational and professional backgrounds. While the SMU MBA programme has no minimum GMAT score, candidates who register higher than average scores in the verbal, quantitative and writing sections will be considered to be more competitive. TOEFL or IELTS scores will be required for candidates whose undergraduate or graduate degrees were not taught in English.

We look forward to nurturing business leaders who have a keen sense of social responsibility and who will proactively contribute to the learning experience both inside and outside the classroom. Candidates with strong interpersonal skills and an international outlook are likely to thrive as leaders in our globalised world.
