Students may apply for our SMU MBA Scholarships & Financial Aid upon admission into the Programme. These Scholarships & Financial Aid entails award amounts up to 30% of the tuition fee, with no bonds attached.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
The SMU MBA will offer the Academic Excellence Award to high-quality candidates with exceptional academic performance. Awards are based on academic merit, final grades and GMAT score.
Tier One: Awardees must have achieved a GMAT score of 720 or above and have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.
Tier Two: Awardees must have achieved a GMAT score of 700 or above and have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.
GLOBAL AWARENESS
The SMU MBA is committed to crafting a diverse and global academic environment that will contribute to the student’s personal and professional journey. The Global Awareness Award is awarded to individuals who will contribute to the class room diversity and enrich the learning experience of students by way of cultural, personal or professional backgrounds.
LEADERSHIP
The SMU MBA recognises individuals with strong leadership capabilities who have exhibited outstanding leadership potential in their profession, organisation or community with the Leadership Scholarship.
Applicants must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities or potential in personal and professional instances.
Applicants must have successfully received an admissions offer.
The Admissions Scholarship Committee will assess the following:
1) Interview Performance
2) Essay: “Please explain in 500 words why you consider yourself a leader"
3) Leadership quality recognition such as:
- In the workplace: demonstrated career progression, line management progression, professional recognition such as awards, project success and team leadership.
- Leadership qualities during student days: e.g. Chairperson of an interest group, class representation, etc.
- Attainment of any non-academic awards and scholarships.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
The SMU MBA nurtures keen minds profoundly committed to leaving a positive impact on the community. The “Community Impact Award” recognises candidates who have contributed to society through outstanding community work (e.g. volunteerism, social and non-paid work, etc.) and through their actions, have impacted members of the community/society in a positive manner.
The Admissions Scholarship Committee will assess the following:
1) Interview Performance
2) Essay: “Please share an example of how you have impacted your greater community and what you think is the best way to serve society."
3) Impact of Community Work: frequency and reach. Awards and recognition will be considered.
IMPACT ON ASIA
The SMU MBA is creating a significant impact in Singapore, extending now to Asia. We look forward to welcoming students who can demonstrate achievements in their professional, social and personal life that have created an impact on Asia, such as:
- Professional development or personal projects that have contributed positively to Asian regions or companies.
- Entrepreneurial projects with an Asian focus.
- Increased the awareness of Asia in other locations.
The Admissions Scholarship Committee will assess the following:
1) Interview Performance
2) Essay: “Please explain in 500 words the professional development, entrepreneurial or personal projects of an Asian focus, that have contributed positively to Asian regions or companies or have increased awareness of Asia in other locations."
3) Impact: reach of impact, entrepreneurial projects, awards and helping the increased awareness of Asia will be taken into consideration.
WOMEN IN BUSINESS
The SMU MBA aims to recognise exceptional women with the “Women in Business” Award, those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership capabilities or potential in their professional or personal endeavours.
Applicants must have successfully received an admissions offer.
The Admissions Scholarship Committee will assess the following:
1) Interview Performance
2) Essay: “Please explain in 500 words why you should be awarded with the Women in Business Scholarship”.
3) Leadership quality recognition such as:
- In the workplace: demonstrated career progression, line management progression, professional recognition such as awards, project success and team leadership.
- Leadership qualities during student days: e.g. Chairperson of an interest group, class representation, etc.
- Attainment of any non-academic awards and scholarships.
Alumni Discount
SMU is committed to lifelong learning. Graduates from SMU undergraduate or postgraduate programmes are automatically eligible for an alumni discount when applying to the MBA programme.
Referral Discount
Candidates with a referee report completed by a student/alumni of SMU during application, in accordance with the admissions criteria, are automatically eligible to obtain a discount of the total tuition fee. To explore your eligibilty for this discount, speak to your Admissions Manager.
Any discounts qualified, will be required to be finalised before matriculation.
If 2 or more company-sponsored (fully / partially) candidates from the same organisation are enrolling into the same intake, each will enjoy a 20% discount.
If a company which has previously sponsored (fully / partially) an employee, and the same company is sponsoring (fully / partially) another employee into the programme at a subsequent intake, that employee will enjoy a 15% discount of the total tuition fee. Any discounts qualified, will be required to be finalised before matriculation.
The SMU-ASEAN Scholarships do not require any applications. The award amounts range from S$5,000 to S$10,000 with no bonds attached to the scholarships.
Eligibility criteria:
- Successful admission into the SMU Full-time or Part-time MBA Programme
- Open to nationals of ASEAN member countries (except Singaporeans)
The Valedictorian of each SMU MBA class will receive a S$5,000 cash prize by the Development Bank of Singapore.
To encourage and motivate outstanding candidates from the Philippines in pursuing their postgraduate education, the Ayala Postgraduate Scholarship (valued at S$25 000) was established by the Ayala Foundation Inc. The Donor is committed to transforming the lives of the citizens of the Philippines through high quality education. In doing so, they have established the Ayala Postgraduate Scholarship at SMU, signifying support for the University's Programmes.
Eligibility criteria:
- Outstanding and deserving candidates from the Philippines
- Full-Time/Part-Time students matriculated to the MBA or MiM Programme
- Special consideration will be given to those who demonstrate financial need
Established in honour of Singapore's former Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew, this Scholarship is Admissions - Scholarships synonymous with prestige and a commitment to serve Singapore. It recognises outstanding individuals with strong academic aptitude and the inclination to serve and contribute to the Singapore society at large.
Eligibility criteria:
- A Singapore citizen with at least a Second Upper Honours Degree or equivalent Degree
- Excellent track record of leadership and service within or beyond applicant's profession
Scholars have the option to pursue a Master's or PhD Programme at local or overseas universities. There is no restriction on the course of study.
Applicants who wish to pursue a Master's Programme in General Management should preferably have at least 4 years of working experience. Public Officers are required to submit their applications through Chief Executive Officers or Permanent Secretaries.
In addition to the one-off sum of S$10,000, private sector awardees will receive an annual allowance of S$50,000, while public sector awardees will receive S$10,000 if they are concurrently sponsored by their organisations.

This prestigious postgraduate Scholarship seeks to groom social service leaders and is open to outstanding staff from voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs) and members of the public. The Scholarship aims to support candidates with excellent academic records, a track record of notable performance, and leadership potential. Scholars can pursue the Full-time or Part-time SMU MBA Programme.
Applicants will need to fulfill a bond in a VWO and other social service agencies upon graduation. The bond duration for local Postgraduate studies is 3 years whereas the bond duration for the overseas Postgraduate studies is 4 years.
The Scholarship package includes:
- Tuition fees
- Maintenance allowance for full-time students
- Salary support
- Book allowance and other compulsory fees
Eligibility criteria:
- A Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Good academic results (e.g. good Honours degree)
Additional criteria for VWO staff:
- Outstanding track record in the social service sector
- Served at a VWO for a minimum of three years
- Strong recommendation from applicant's Executive Director/Chairman/Board President
Additional criteria for members of the public:
- Work experience in leadership roles
- Strong interest in joining the social service sector
- Strong voluntary track record in social and community services

Funded by the Singapore Ministry of Education, this bond-free Scholarship is awarded annually to deserving Full-time SMU MBA candidates from APEC member economies (excluding Singaporeans).
The Scholarship package includes:
- Monthly stipend of S$1,350
- Book allowance of S$500
- Tuition fee, health insurance, examination fee and other approved fees, allowance and expenses
- Cost of one overseas Business Study Mission undertaken within the tenable period of the Scholarship
- Cost of travel from home country to Singapore on award of the Scholarship
- Cost of travel from Singapore to home country upon successful completion of the SMU MBA Programme
Eligibility criteria:
- Citizen of an APEC member economy (Singaporeans and PR not eligible to apply)
- Good academic results (e.g. good Honours degree)
- At least two years of management or professional experience
- Proficient in English
- Good GMAT score
- Has not studied abroad previously
Applicants will be notified if they have been shortlisted for this Scholarship and if they have been offered admission into the SMU MBA Programme.
