Why SMU Business

At the Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB), we not only do things differently, we do them better—where fresh thinking and innovation are highly valued and encouraged. You will learn how to sense and grasp opportunities, challenge conventional wisdom, and surge ahead through the power of your ideas.

Ultimately, an SMU business education will equip you with skills to make things happen in any career you choose, and, most importantly, will empower you to be what you want to be.

Global Accreditation

LKCSB is the first business school in Singapore to achieve the ‘triple crown' accreditation, gold standards for excellence in business education, which only a handful of schools in the world have earned:

  • Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)
  • Association of MBAs (AMBA)
  • EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS)

LKCSB is also a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Society, the Executive MBA Council (EMBAC), the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), and is a signatory of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).

Global Mindset

Global exposure is an integral part of the LKCSB learning experience because it is important to know how to engage and thrive in an international business environment. That is why SMU partners with universities globally to help students have the mind-shifting international experience that they want and need.

Examples of global exposure opportunities:

  • International student exchange programme
  • Business study mission
  • Short-term study programme
  • Overseas internship
  • Overseas community service project

Leadership & Growth

Opportunities abound for a rich and fulfilling student life outside the classroom. Life is exciting, vibrant and diverse. While students find it challenging to balance studies, career plans and CCA interests, they are also groomed to be mature all-rounders in life. Leadership and growth opportunities come through getting involved in the activities of the numerous student interest clubs that SMU has to offer.

Strong Learning & Teaching Philosophy

At SMU, students learn from some of the world's finest business thinkers and practitioners. LKCSB has more than 100 faculty members who are actively engaged with businesses and government agencies to help students apply what they learn in the business context.

Small classes make for a collaborative environment where debate and interaction are the order of the day, while SMU professors provoke and inspire group discussions through the use of challenging case studies, team-based projects, and computer-simulated challenges.

Faculty members are accessible outside of class, serving as academic advisors, or research mentors, to help students make the most of their SMU experience.

Research Excellence

LKCSB embraces a vibrant and high-quality research environment while maintaining excellent teaching standards. Our faculty contribute towards the University's mission of disseminating knowledge, generating leading-edge research with global impact, and producing leaders for the knowledge-based economy.
