Students Sharing: Our Learning Journey

Bachelor of Business Management (Private Banking) SkillsFuture Work-Study Degree

Third-year BBM Singaporean students majoring in Finance who are interested in private banking may apply to this inaugural Work-Study Degree. Selected students will undergo an 8-month intensive internship with DBS and be rotated through the relevant departments within the bank to gain practical skill sets and competencies. This initiative is supported by the government’s Financial Sector Development Fund (FSDF) which aims to build a Singaporean talent pipeline of job-ready graduates for the finance sector through structured Work-Study Degree internships at financial institutions.

Main Highlights:

  • 8-month internship at DBS from 9 Dec 2024 – 8 Aug 2025, which ends with students taking the CFA level I exam in Aug 2025.
  • Successful completion of the internship will count for five course units towards the BBM degree.
  • Increased employability at graduation—a smooth transition from school to the workplace.

Double Degrees

Students can choose a double degree option and combine their BBM with another area of expertise. Students will graduate with two undergraduate degrees from two different SMU schools within four to five years:

  • Business Management & Accountancy [BBM/BAcc]
  • Business Management & Economics [BBM/BSc (Econs)]
  • Business Management & Information Systems [BBM/BSc (IS)]

  • Business Management & Software Engineering [BBM/BSc (SE) WSDeg]
  • Business Management & Social Sciences [BBM/BSocSc]
  • Law & Business Management [LLB/BBM] (Law will be the primary degree)

Freshmen may be granted direct entry into a double degree programme on the basis of outstanding academic results. They must maintain a required cumulative Grade Point Average (cGPA) to remain enrolled in a double degree programme.

Subject to the availability of vacancies, freshmen who are not successful in their application for direct entry into the double degree programme may apply if they achieve excellent grades in their first or second year at SMU and meet the course pre-requisites.

Students may expand their learning across academic disciplines and increase their career options by taking a second major at either LKCSB or one of the other five schools at SMU. SMU students can curate their own academic experience by specialising in more than one area of interest. They can broaden their scope of learning by opting for a second major offered by LKCSB or other schools in SMU.

  • BBM students taking a second major offered by LKCSB will have to complete the six courses listed under the respective majors below. The course requirements for first and second business majors are the same.
  • Non-BBM students can also choose a major offered by LKCSB by completing the six courses listed under the chosen major, in addition to two business core courses to build their foundation in business.

Students are free to choose their majors within their first 4 regular terms of study and there is no restriction or quota for each major or track.

Current students should refer to the academic handbook for your cohort to understand the business major/track requirements: OASIS > Academic > Curriculum Advisement > Student Academic Handbook.
