Faculty members in our group received Ph.D. degrees from top research universities. Many of us have won competitive research, teaching, and service awards. Our mission is to transform students to service better, to produce better, and to run business better. We are the Science of Better.

If you are planning to pursue a Ph.D. degree, you are welcome to apply to our Ph.D. in Business (Operations Management) programme. You will receive very rigorous training through our Ph.D. courses and will do top-tier research with our faculty members, who have been actively publishing in leading academic journals such as (in alphabetical order) Academy of Management Journal, Information Systems Research, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Journal of Operations Management, Management ScienceManufacturing & Service Operations ManagementMarketing Science, Mathematical Programming, Operations Research and Production and Operations Management. Welcome to the homepage of the Marketing group at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business. We are a team of 19 full-time faculty members and an Area Administrator, committed to the creation of knowledge through scholarly research and the nurturing of students to become effective marketers and responsible future business leaders.

The research interests of the group are diverse and our expertise falls in the three broad areas of: Consumer Behaviour, Quantitative Modeling, and Strategy. The strength of the group is reflected in the fact that all of us received training from reputable PhD programmes, such as those at Columbia University, Emory University, University of Florida, and University of Toronto. This has helped to ensure a level of research productivity that we can be proud of. According to the University of Texas Dallas Global Top 100 Ranking for research, based on research published between 2009 and 2013, our group is ranked #2 in Asia and #1 in Singapore. Our publications appear in the top journals of the field, including Marketing Science, Management Science, the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Marketing Research, and the Journal of Marketing.

We offer the Marketing major at the undergraduate level. Our graduates have gone on to build illustrious careers as brand managers, business development executives and consultants, in a wide variety of industries, including consumer goods, financial services, tourism, technology, retailing, industrial goods and services, advertising, and marketing research. The group is proud to say that we do well on the teaching front as well – our members are consistently named to the Dean’s Honour List for Teaching and have received university-level nominations and awards for Teaching Excellence.

We also have a PhD in Marketing programme with high quality students and urge those interested in an academic career in marketing to explore our programme for the rigorous training that it offers. 

Faculty members in the Finance group at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business received their doctorates from leading research universities and have published actively in prestigious finance journals. For example, in the UT Dallas rankings based on publications in Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Review of Financial Studies for the 2017-2020 period, SMU is ranked 42nd worldwide, 2nd in Asia, and 1st in Singapore (see PDF file). The finance group hosts an annual summer research camp, an active research seminar series, and visits by distinguished finance scholars. The finance group also has a PhD programme with high quality students and good recent placements.

In teaching, the finance group offers both undergraduate and graduate courses, such as Analysis of Equity Securities, Analysis of Fixed Income Securities, Analysis of Derivative Securities, Corporate Finance, Entrepreneurial Finance, Financial Innovation, International Finance, Investment Banking, Advanced Portfolio Management, Real Estate Investments and Finance, and Wealth Management and Advisory. Undergraduates who major in finance also have the opportunity to choose a track to specialise in. Tracks in the finance major include Banking, International Trading, Wealth Management, Finance Analytics, and Real Estate.

Our programmes have received industry certification and are highly ranked. In particular, our BBM (with Finance major), MSc in Applied Finance (MAF), and MSc in Wealth Management (MWM) degrees have achieved CFA Program Partner status and we are one of the qualified Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association Academic partners. In terms of rankings, our MWM has been recognised as one of the top three finance Masters programmes in the world by the Financial Times (FT) Masters in Finance Post-experience Ranking 2020, and the MAF program is ranked 5th among Asian business schools and 40th in the world in the FT Masters in Finance Pre-experience Ranking 2020. And in 2018, SMU is ranked 30th in Financial Times for MBAs for Finance. We also have a Global Master of Finance dual-degree programme which offers the opportunity to study in two world-class universities: Singapore Management University in Singapore and Washington University in St. Louis, USA.

The faculty in Strategy and Entrepreneurship teach and facilitate a variety of management related courses. The variety of topics in the area of Strategy and Entrepreneurship related courses offered to undergraduates include Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Strategy, and International Business.

The Strategy and Entrepreneurship Group offers the Strategic Management majorInnovation & Entrepreneurship majorSustainability Management Major (only as second major) and Digital Business (only as second major).

The Communication Management major encompasses the strategies, techniques, and skills necessary for navigating the complex world of communication. As technology continues to reshape how we connect, communicate, and consume information, professionals in this field play a pivotal role in shaping narratives, influencing behaviour, and driving organizational success. The major provides students with the digital skills and strategic thinking to create and deliver powerful narratives, interpret data and translate it into impactful insights, and design captivating content and compelling digital experiences and products. Graduates emerge as versatile communicators who can harness data, design, and navigate the complexities of modern communication.
