Harvard Business School pre-course (EMBA)

Note: You may only start on the HBS Pre-course AFTER being successfully matriculated as an SMU Student because you will need to create an account using your SMU email account. 

Module Information

Prior to delving into the ACCT609 Financial Reporting & Analysis course in Segment 3, students must undertake a pre-course study. This preparatory material aims to acquaint students with fundamental concepts crucial for comprehending Financial Accounting. 

Estimated Time to Complete

The length of time required to complete the module will vary depending on your prior experience with these concepts. Do plan between 10 – 20 hours to complete the module.

You will need to complete and pass all three exams for this module. The professor will assume your familiarity with the material from the pre-study when classes begin.

IMPORTANT

  • Please note that the pre-course study for Financial Accounting accounts for 10% of the component grades for your Financial Reporting & Analysis course that you will be taking in the next segment.
  • Students are required to obtain a minimum of 75% for all three exams (Final Exam 1, 2 & 3) in the pre-course study. Pre-test is not required.
  • Corresponding marks (rounded up) for this component: Average of 90+% for the exams = 10 marks, average of 80+% = 9 marks, etc.

Deadline to complete: The Friday immediately preceding the first day of class.

Accessing your Pre–Study Materials 

The EMBA Office will procure the Coursepack on your behalf. Further details will be provided by the office during Segment 1 following the commencement of the EMBA programme.
