Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy – Life (MBCT-L) Mindfulness for Life Courses

Overview

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Life (MBCT-L) or Mindfulness for Life is a mindfulness-based approach designed to help us live with greater clarity, resilience, and emotional balance. It draws on both mindfulness practices and cognitive-behavioural strategies to support well-being, not only in times of challenge but also in everyday life. Instead of getting caught up in unhelpful patterns of thinking or reacting, we learn to notice them with openness and curiosity. By cultivating present-moment awareness, we can relate to our thoughts and feelings in a way that reduces their hold over us.

Through guided mindfulness practices, reflection, and group discussions, MBCT-L encourages us to respond to life’s ups and downs with greater skill and kindness. It is not about avoiding difficulties, but about meeting them with steadiness and compassion, creating the space to choose how we wish to live. In this evidence-based programme, you will discover lifelong learning tools to support emotional resilience, nurture mental well-being, and live more fully in the here-and-now.

Is This Course For You?

This course is open to anyone who wishes to enhance their mental well-being, build resilience, and deepen their mindfulness practice. It is suitable for both beginners and those with prior mindfulness experience, including graduates of MBSR or other mindfulness-based courses. While MBCT-L is not a treatment programme, it can be particularly helpful for those wanting to prevent stress from escalating or to maintain positive mental health.

If you have any acute or chronic mental or physical health conditions, please contact Mindfulness Initiative @ SMU to arrange a conversation with your course instructor (via email, phone, or in person) to ensure the course is suitable for you. Instructors may, at their discretion, advise against participation if it is not in your best interest. In such cases, the full course fee will be refunded.
